GGIL gets on board with recycling
PLASTIC ECO INITIATIVE
Ever wondered where all of those plastic bottles, containers and bags go? Well for the most part, they don’t go anywhere. Most of our plastic waste goes to our landfills and will stay there for the next hundred years and the plastics that do get broken down can become toxic and contaminate our soil and water.
Is plastic really that much of a problem to Trinidad and Tobago? Here are some facts that may surprise you:
- 12-19% of all waste in our landfills is plastic.
- The Beetham landfill is now filled beyond its planned capacity.
- When we litter the streets, we litter our seas and rivers, 80% of all garbage floating in the sea is plastic.
We are all aware of aluminium and glass recycling but did you know we can recycle plastics as well? Guardian General has gotten on board with reducing and recycling our plastic waste. The more plastic we can collect for processing, the less plastic we have polluting our environment.
Follow these steps as we work our way to keeping Trinidad and Tobago clean and beautiful:

- Keep your plastic
- Remove caps and covers
- Rinse (dirty plastic can’t be recycled)
- Crush
- Put in plastic bags
- Throw
You can “Throw” or deposit your plastics in the large receptacle we have placed at the entrance of our head office at Newtown Centre in Port of Spain. Not too sure which plastics can be recycled? Take a look at what we can reuse:
