THE BIG DEED PROJECT

Imagine your spouse passing away in your arms.  Imagine a brain surgery mistake permanently disabling your child. Imagine living in a house with gaping holes for windows.  Imagine having one bed and five children.  Imagine all of this and asking only for a Christmas Tree to make your children’s wish come true.

What would YOU do?

If you answered that you’d do everything in your power to give this family a real home, then you must have been a part of Guardian General Insurance Limited - Pay It Forward® BIG Deed Project!

Before we understood the true extent of their situation, we had already begun to rally staff together.  Focusing on “Sweat Equity”, our goal was not to simply cut a cheque but to get out there, get involved and truly make a difference.

With 44 persons strong, we split into 6 teams with the sole purpose of transforming the Logan Family’s house into a home.

Team members were abuzz soliciting the help of family, friends and fellow colleagues.  We purchased furniture, curtains, vinyl flooring, tools and appliances, while other members of our Guardian General family graciously donated household items, foodstuffs and presents for the children. Some even stretched their arms to have items such as paints and materials donated.

On November 12th 2011, even more than the original 44 members of the team arrived at the home in New Grant.  From 6.00am to 8.00pm, our brave, willing and spirited volunteers poured out the best of what they had to offer.  From logistics to masonry to craftsmanship, teams put in all of their talents, their time and even their treasure to make sure the transformation was completed in one day. Covered in paint and mud, tired and aching, the ultimate reward came as we watched the children dance with glee at the sight of their new rooms and their very own Christmas Tree.  Hearts melted as they saw Mrs Logan’s reaction, acknowledging that her tears conveyed the deepest form of gratitude. So when she asked how she could repay our kindness, we simply asked her to pay it forward … to pass on the gift of giving to someone else in need.

Guardian General sincerely thanks the Logan family for allowing us the privilege to serve them.

How will YOU serve someone and Pay It Forward today?
